One of the best things about Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania, is its location: at only 20 minutes to State College and 10 minutes to Bellefonte, this quaint borough (population 2,879) is close to some of the best amenities that Centre County has to offer.

And if you don’t feel like venturing far from home, there’s everything you need nearby: gas and convenience stores, banks, restaurants and a tavern all call this census-designated place home.

Originally a stagecoach stop on the heavily-traveled Bellefonte-Lewistown turnpike, the area was first settled around 1790, with the town officially founded in 1845. Many early citizens worked in the expanding iron industry, either in mines to support the furnaces or in the furnaces themselves. Others worked in the Bellefonte axe factory, or lumbered in nearby Greens Valley.

The town began to grow more rapidly in the early 20th Century with the founding of the local lime quarrying industry. Eventually, a fish hatchery and the state penitentiary also became important employers in the area.

The borough has quite a variety of housing stock, much of it modestly priced.

Newer homes can be found just outside the borough in neighborhoods like Steeplechase. This development features amazing mountain vistas in a tranquil country setting. You can choose between eight different S&A Homes models, starting at $249,900. Only a few homesites remain in this desirable area.

Another popular option for newer homes is the Pleasant Hills neighborhood. Situated on tree-lined streets above town, it sits near Gettig Park and offers modest prices and rolling lots.
