Central PA 4th Fest 2023 Celebration

Celebrate Independence Day this year at the Central PA 4th Fest in State College! This annual event is one of the largest and most spectacular 4th of July celebrations in the state, featuring a full day of activities, entertainment, and fireworks.

4th Fest has been a State College tradition every 4th of July dating back to 1927, when the Alpha Fire Company organized a carnival in celebration. Since then, the 4th Fest has evolved and was rated among one of the best choreographed fireworks displays in the world at the start of the new millennia. Over the years, organization and planning for the event has been passed through various partnerships and is now organized by an independent non-profit group of local volunteers who are dedicated to honoring America's independence and promoting patriotism. The event is supported by donations, sponsorship and ticket sales.

There is something for everyone at Central PA 4th Fest! Here are some of the highlights:

Independence Day Parade: The parade starts at 2 p.m. and runs along College Avenue and Beaver Avenue. It features floats, bands, veterans, civic groups, and more. You can watch the parade from the sidewalks or join in the fun by registering your own entry on the Central PA 4th Fest website.

Firecracker 4K: This is a run/walk event that starts at 9 a.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. You can register online or on-site and enjoy a scenic route through Penn State's campus. The race benefits Centre Volunteers in Medicine, a local organization that provides free medical and dental care to low-income residents.

Live Music: There will be several stages set up throughout the downtown area and the Penn State campus, featuring local and regional musicians of various genres. You can enjoy rock, country, jazz, blues, folk, and more. The music begins at noon and goes on until 9 p.m. Enjoy a performance by Yachtley Crew just before the fireworks on Medlar Field!

Fireworks: The grand finale of the event is the fireworks show at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, home of the State College Spikes baseball team. This is the largest fireworks display in Pennsylvania, with more than 10,000 shells launched into the sky. The show starts at 9:15 p.m. and lasts for about 45 minutes. You can buy tickets for reserved seating at the stadium or watch from nearby locations.
Other exciting activities include a car show cruise, BMX bikes, kids craft tents and a puppet show featuring historical characters. Of course, you can't celebrate our nation's birthday without a giant American flag cake! The cake will be served around 6pm, so be sure to get a slice!
