“I grew up running through streams and across fields in rural Centre County,” Derek said. “The State College area is a great place to live and raise a family.”
Derek, whose father was a Penn State professor, was fortunate enough to enjoy exposure to worlds outside our community during his younger years, including a time spent living out west.
“After college, I moved to Colorado and enjoyed my Rocky Mountain experience,” he said. “But ultimately, Happy Valley drew me back, and I’m glad it did.”
Derek shares his life in Centre County with his son, who gets to enjoy many of the same activities Derek did when he was growing up.
“It’s a special place with so much to offer,” Derek said. “I enjoy the balance of quality living in an active community; the close proximity of farmland, mountains and outdoor activities; and the ability to reach several large cities in a matter of a few hours or less.”
Derek is a Penn State alumnus and former ski team member. He is still involved in the snowsports industry as a staff trainer at nearby Tussey Mountain Ski Area.
Highly regarded in professional circles, Derek has served as the president of the Centre County Association of Realtors. Currently, he is on the association’s governmental affairs board.
