Lemont Homes for Sale

Located at the southwestern end of Nittany Mountain, Lemont, Pennsylvania (population 2,270), is an historic village just two miles from Penn State's University Park campus. Spring Creek meanders through the village, which is close to the popular Slab Cabin Park.

This is a small community that cares. When the local post office was moved from the village in 1978, concerned citizens formed the Lemont Village Association (LVA) to reverse the decision. The group was successful, and the post office was returned to the village.

The LVA still plays an important role here. While they're recognized for sponsoring various events throughout the year including the Strawberry Festival and Christmas Market, they're best known for their recent work on the John Thompson Grain Elevator and Coal Sheds. This building is the last remaining wooden grain elevator in Pennsylvania, and the association has been instrumental in its preservation.

Other character-filled buildings serve as a backdrop to daily life in Lemont. Take, for example, the Lemont Elementary School, built in 1939, which is one of 103 buildings in the Lemont Historic District. These buildings come in all shapes and styles; from Victorians to 1920s cubist architecture to mid-century ranches, there's no shortage of variety in the local housing stock.

A variety of businesses inhabit the traditional downtown, with many more only a short drive away. Be sure to check out Cafe Lemont, a homey coffee shop offering scratch-made fare. A block away is the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania. This nonprofit serves students, artists and the art-loving public with shows and instruction.

Nightlife is never far away in Lemont, either. Happy Valley Brewing Company, located in the historic Klinger Farms barn, is a modern and popular brewery and restaurant. Beer lovers can also check out Voodoo Brewing, which recently opened a pub nearby.

Your quick Uber ride home from a night out on the town could take you to a variety of different neighborhoods. Of course, the historic downtown has a lot to offer, but there's many more neighborhoods to choose from.

For lovers of character who also enjoy new-builds, we recommend taking a look at Barnbridge Village. Featuring upscale Victorians and Arts and Crafts-style homes, this 11-acre subdivision blends seamlessly with the historic downtown. These homes have front porches, outdoor gas lights and extensive landscaping.

Another neighborhood we love is Winfield Heights. Phase 1 of the project is wrapping up in this 65-lot development, which includes five acres of open space with walking paths. Lots range from .41 to .94 acres and are on rolling hills.

If you're looking for great views but still want proximity to the historic downtown, check out First Avenue. Filled with single-unit homes, many of them offer split-level accessibility. The land is tiered, so everyone has a great view overlooking East College Avenue. Even more spectacular views can be found in Nittany Orchard. Clear skies mean seemingly endless views here, with Beaver Stadium, Mount Nittany Medical Center and the west end of campus visible to many owners. Homes are mid- to large-sized, and located close to Nittany Orchard Park.

More great views can be found in Mount Nittany Terrace. This new development of quarter- to half-acre lots is situated at the base of Nittany Mountain and offers easy access to the village.
