Park Forest Village or as more commonly called, Park Forest, is a delightful neighborhood in State College, PA. Park Forest is home to an elementary school and to one of the middle schools that educates the students in the State College Area School District. These are Park Forest Elementary School and Park Forest Middle School. Park Forest is also home to several beautiful parks scattered throughout the neighborhood as well as the Park Forest pool. These parks are extremely well maintained and a part of the Centre Region Parks and Rec Department. Traveling around State College without a car is when you live in Park Forest because the CATA Bus Service has many stops throughout this neighborhood. The entire neighborhood has sidewalks throughout and large mature trees. When developed by J. Alvin Hawbaker, this neighborhood won several national awards for design which design was set on preserving trees and having curved streets throughout (as opposed to clear-cutting and straight street lines which was common at the time). Development began in 1956 and continued into the 90's though scattered lots are still being built on to this very day.
The commercial area around Park Forest has grown in the number of stores and in the diversity of shopping over the last 20 years or so. This makes shopping convenient. The Colonnade Plaza is home to Wegmans, Target, Dick's, Kohls, and a variety of smaller stores too. This plaza connects to a couple of other shopping plazas that include Home Goods, Petco, Trader Joes, Michael's Crafts, Chicos, Joseph A Banks, Anne Taylor, and also some smaller specialty stores. TJ Maxx and Walmart are just one more plaza over and restaurants (or 'fast food' locations) are mingled in among this shopping.
