My story about moving to State College PA

My moving story is one of a conversion...an awakening...one of those 'ah ha' moments in life.  I didn't want to come here back when I did in 1998. I didn't want to come at all.  My husband's job was transferred and so, we had to move.  With the kids.  And the dog. And an enormous amount of 'stuff' we seemed to acquire and save.  Away from our families and with our heels (especially mine)  firmly dug into New Jersey.  Away from a home I loved and a community I was completely immersed in. But, we came cause we had to...and, after about 3 months, I NEVER looked back! 'Ah ha'...this area is a WONDERFUL place to call home.  My father used to laugh and say that I had found 'Shangri La' ...a place which is defined as a mystical, harmonious valley; an earthly paradise; a permanently happy land.  This joke by my dad was, of course, a little overboard, but I would laugh and tell him, that this place is actually called 'Happy Valley' and that it, indeed lives up to that title.   Anyway, we began our new life here, raising our kids, burying one dog and adopting a new one, going to work, going to school, making friends and carving out a happy life ... here in Happy Valley.  And, I can tell you...it IS a lovely place to live your life.

Buying and Selling Real Estate in State College

I love real estate!  It's dynamic and I find everything about it interesting. An added bonus is that I love people and, in real estate, you're always helping and meeting new people. Sometimes buying a new home is exciting; sometimes it's overwhelming. This can be true of selling too.  But, home ownership is still the American dream and a good agent can help make it stressless by handling everything for you!  When I sold the commercial building on the corner of Beaver and Allen St in State College, it was by far my biggest sale, but not my biggest accomplishment.   I felt just as happy when I helped a family that was relocating here from Maryland and buying their first home ever.  They were able to find a home they love and within just a couple of weeks have everything in place before their four boys started at their new schools here in PA.  Nice!

Happy Clients!

My experience with Liz was absolutely the best I have ever had during a real estate transaction. I have bought homes previously and can say hands down that Liz exceeded all of my expectations. I originally was working with a different realtor who was slow to respond and was limited in her  knowledge. Liz was recommended to me by a friend and I asked that he pass along my contact info. Within an hour of doing so she called to speak with me by phone and get a sense of who I was and what I was looking for. Liz started the process by taking me around various neighborhoods and home types to really get a sense of what I was looking for. From that point moving forward she was always on top of every new listing that might interest me and readily available to meet for a showing. Additionally, it was clear that she wasn't just trying to sell me a home, but rather to make sure I got a house that I loved. Even in cases where I would have potentially settled, she was the one who would say "I think you can do better" and didn't just close the deal solely to make a commission. Liz was very knowledgable about the area and the market itself and went above and beyond in every aspect. Even after the closing she was still helpful in providing information about potential contractors, etc.

Liz Piazza is a very professional and diligent agent. The firm she works with, KBB Realtors is fortunate to have her as their marketing director. She recently sold our property in downtown State College, PA and managed to overcome zoning obstacles by showing the new Borough Zoning Officer that she had misinterpreted their ordinance concerning mixed use properties. The buyer was ready to pull out of the deal until Ms. Piazza contacted the more experienced Zoning Officer who was retained by the Borough as a consultant. When this matter was resolved the transaction proceeded smoothly. One could not ask for better focus and attention to detail at every level. Five star ratings all around..

Liz did an outstanding job in marketing, negotiating, and closing on my mother's house. She went way beyond what most real estate agents would do to get her house sold, all with the utmost professionalism. She was very knowledgeable about the development my mother's house was in and the market for a garden home in State College. Our experience was first class all the way!!

I can't praise Liz Piazza high enough. She was such a pleasure to work with. She listened to what I was looking for (type of house and area) and not only scoured the listings to show me the ones I'd be interested in, but also reached out to her many contacts to learn houses that might be coming on the market. This is how she secured my home purchase. She arranged for me to see "my perfect house" before it came on the market. Then she helped me negotiate the deal and secure it at the lowest price. In addition to being a great Realtor, she has also given me great advice on services and contractors in the area. I highly recommend her services.

We hired Liz to sell our state college condo after another agent failed to get the job done. I am a Realtor in another area so I know each case is unique. Liz got us 2 offers within the first few weeks of having the listing. The buyer we agreed to work with was a challenge to get to closing but Liz hung in there. She is professional, knowledgable and always upbeat. I would recommend her to anyone with real estate needs.

Professional Marketing Experience

Fresh out of college, I started at Borden Chemical in New Jersey as the Marketing Director's assistant.  My boss was quite a genius and I was fortunate to work for him and learn so much.  I keep in touch with him to this very day and still owe him for all he taught me about business.  Shortly after he left the company, I, too left the company and went to work for Transamerica. Very different syle of management there...  However, there's always a silver lining.  I had to pick up the ball and run with it.  It taught me alot...and quickly! After Liz Piazza Kissinger Bigatel & Brower REALTORSbeing in marketing for a couple of years, I transferred to Sales.  So, I sold and leased tractor trailers in the trucking industry in central and northern NJ...enough said.  When I married, we bought a house that was too far from my office.  (Yes, back in those days, you needed to go into the office to handle paperwork.)  So I left Transamerica and started sales at WMID in Atlantic City.  Once again, I found myself with a mentor who encouraged success and motivated people by his energy and enthusiasm.  It was a great fit for me...until I became pregnant and then nothing fit!  I stayed at home raising our children for the next fifteen years....very happily.

Fast forward fifteen years and I find myself with time on my hands and decide to take a little part time position at a real estate company...Kissinger Bigatel & Brower.  Again, I was blessed with management who wanted me to learn and be better and grow.  Jan Graci's enthusiasm, her years of experience, her creative problem solving, her sense of calm when all around is calamity...priceless!  She's taught me so much about real estate, about business, about 'thinking outside of the box'...my sincere thanks to her.  My other boss, Mark Bigatel is also a terrific mentor.  He also has many years of experience, a keen eye for marketing properties and excellent judgement.  As the market took a turn for the worse in 2008, Mark who is KBB's Managing Broker led this brokerage through the difficult times and we actually increased our market share while others saw their share dwindling.  This success is due to wise management and a serious company-wide dedication to client care.  Working closely with both of these professionals is why my 'little part time postition' has morphed into a 'full time passion'. I'm delighted to now be an  Associate Broker and a Manager here at Kissinger Bigatel & Brower REALTORS...the best brokerage in all of Centre County!

A few of my favorite things...

I love sports, so when we came here, it was a easy to embrace Joe Pa and the Nittany Lions....especially since we had excellent seats for every home game.  However, I will always stay loyal to the NY Giants and the NY Yankees!

Love music...everything from live bands to YouTube. Like most genres...except Jazz...just can't get into it.  Sorry.

Completely enjoy gardening...potted plants outside, house plants inside, raised beds, hanging baskets....you name it.  Flowers are fun, pretty and some attract those amazing hummingbirds.

Love my dog, Marty, who accompanies me on a walk every day...sometimes in the morning...sometimes in the evening...it doesn't matter to him!  (Even now as I type this, he is looking at me and waiting to walk.)

Like old movies...almost any kind except westerns...unless Clint Eastwood is in them...then I like westerns too.

Magazines...after working hard all day...it's fun to just skim through Vogue or Bazaar or any fashion magazine and look at the fashion.

People! I do love people and can usually find something to like in everyone.

Trying to live a life of faith and contribution...and remembering that 'Gratitude is the Best Attitude' in all circumstances.
